Breast-feeding is extremely beneficial to the health of newborn babies, said Turuvekere taluk unit member of B P A I Dr B Nanjappa in a release.
Nearly 2,50,000 new borns can be survived if they are breast-feeded soon after the birth of the child, he said.
This will also help in preventing the newborn from blood pressure and diabetes kind of diseases in future, he opined.
Maternity leave
He also stressed to extend the maternity leave to six months from that of four months for the safe health of the mother.
The breast-feeding week will be held from August 1. Sri Shivakumar Seer of Kalpataru Ashrama in Mayasandra will inaugurate the week, he added.
Jatha
A jatha will be held under the leadership of Mata Mangalanandajee of Badarikashrama and a memorandum will be submitted to Tahsildar.
