GETTING READY TO BREASTFEED DURING PREGNANCY
Back

Though it depends entirely on you and your baby, you should discuss about breastfeeding with your husband and older children. Their support will be of great value to you.

Take care of your nipple and breasts as any other part of your body. There is no need for any special soap or oil.
You need to eat a balanced diet containing all type of food throughout pregnancy and breastfeeding. Your food may be of any kind as per your choice and customs.

You should always be confident about breastfeeding your baby successfully as most mothers are.

Talk to a mother who has recently breastfed her own baby successfully. She can be very helpful in answering many of your questions. Some of your questions will be answered by the time you complete reading this information.

Nipple Protractility Test

Nipples may be flat, inverted or too long, but it should be protractile to work. The protractility test helps to assess the working of nipple: the woman tries to hold and pull out the nipple. If it can be pulled out it is protractile; if not, it may need treatment. Protractility of the nipple can be improved during late pregnancy if a mother is worried about breastfeeding.
