Research
  • BPNI is conducting study to assess breastfeeding and infant care in 600 hospitals in India.
  • Another research into feeding of low birth weight babies in NICU has been sent for publication.
  • Future research plans: effect of work on breastfeeding, use of complementary foods in infancy, pregnant woman's choice of infant feeding, when and how, why women choose to exclusively breastfeed their babies for first 4-6 months; positive deviance research.

Advocacy

  • BPNI developed a book The law to protect and promote breastfeeding” and brochures on the “IMS Act: Making it Work”.
  • BPNI have developed a monitoring manual for the IMS Act in 1994.

    Monitoring Compliance

    After the IMS Act was enforced, BPNI has already noted about 27 violations which include print media including newspapers, TV (Doordarshan and private channels), baby food industry etc. and most of which has been sorted out again by advocacy work.
