GUIDELINES FOR COLLABORATING PARTNERS

BPNI is a national network of individuals and organisations working for protection, promotion and support of breastfeeding in India. BPNI believes that breastfeeding is the right of all mothers and children. BPNI works through advocacy, social mobilization, information sharing, education and training of health workers and monitoring the compliance of the IMS Act1 to protect breastfeeding.

BPNI works as the Regional Focal Point for South Asia for the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) & International Baby Food Action Network (IBFAN).

BPNI does not accept funds or sponsorship of any kind from the companies producing infant milk substitutes, feeding bottles, related equipments, or infant foods (cereal foods) or those who have ever been found to violate the IMS Act or the International Code.

BPNI encourages the development of alliances or coalitions, collaborations of breastfeeding advocates to stimulate greater activity in the country.

These activities include:

  • Communicating between BPNI Secretariat, BPNI State Chapters or members; ·
  • Disseminating BPNI materials; ·
  • Coordinating WBW activities & disseminate WBW materials; ·
  • Translating the material supplied by BPNI in local language;
  • Training; ·
  • Research.

1. The collaborating partners will be identified through a consultative process. These institutions or organizations will collaborate with BPNI and assist in networking, information support, and social mobilization activities assist in monitoring the compliance of IMS Act and the Cable Television Network (Regulation) Amendment Act3.

2. BPNI will take into consideration its funding policy regarding while appointing collaborating partners and shall not collaborate with any organization that accepts funds from people/donors with conflicts of interests.

3. These partners should have signed the BPNI's Endorsement form and should accept BPNI's sponsorship policy of not accepting funds from manufacturers of infant milk substitutes, feeding bottles, related equipments or infant foods.

4. The managing committee of BPNI shall be responsible for appointing collaborating partners. Back
