BPNI is like an umbrella that encompasses
all those working at the national, state
and community level to protect, promote
and support breastfeeding. There are six
components in the BPNI. These include:
- Central
Coordination Committee
- Programmes/Projects
- BPNI
State Chapters
- Collaborating
Partners
National
Secretariat: It coordinates BPNI's
major programmes and maintains the flow
of information among the different components
of BPNI. It has a small rented office that
serves mainly to network and facilitate
action in support of infant and young child
feeding. It is working with 5 regular staff
members and 4 part-time members.
Central
Coordination Committee:
A managing committee called Central Coordination
Committee (CCC) manages BPNI and a National
Coordinator at the national secretariat
at Delhi having technical and secretarial
staff coordinates all its work. The CCC
is the decision making body of BPNI that
takes all the policy decisions and guides
actions. Its principal function is to advise
BPNI, on how to achieve its goals and objectives.
It appoints project coordinators in every
area of action like social mobilization,
monitoring the IMS Act, education and training,
information, research, and policy and planning.
Each of the project coordinators links with
groups and individuals from among the BPNI
members and from outside to carry out their
tasks. Each project has five to six members
from different parts of the country and
from different sectors.
It consists of a Chief Coordinator, a National
Coordinator, a Finance Coordinator and 5
executive members from different parts of
India. This committee is elected in the
General Body Meeting of BPNI for tenure
of 3 years. In Dec 2005 during BPNI’s

district branch has a district coordinator
who is the nodal
person responsible for taking all decisions
I consultation with other members and to
implement them in the field of advocacy,
